Larsen Posts the Cover to Savage Dragon #188

sam haze news small final versionErik Larsen recently posted the cover to Savage Dragon #188 on his Facebook page. Larsen commented:

“Savage Dragon #188–another retro cover–not sure yet if I’ll beat it up like some previous retro covers.”

The logo used is in the same font as the golden-age Silver Streak comics and features the Claw, Daredevil, and Malcolm Dragon.

UPDATED: Erik posted a second version that gives the appearance of beat-up and aged golden-age comic. See below.

Supreme by Tom Scioli? I Like the Sound of That!

Tom Scioli recently published what looks like a mock Supreme cover on his Facebook account (see image below). Scioli’s comments about the illustration indicate that he is making a pitch to Liefeld to take over the book after Larsen exits. Or…is the image from one of the back-up tales in the giant-sized issue #68 (Larsen’s final issue)?

Tom Sciloi’s description of the illustration:

“I’ve been thinking about Supreme. Here’s a quick drawing I did of Ethan Crane in an exo-suit made of repurposed Suprematon parts vs. Mean Supreme, with Optilux in a crystal skull spaceship.”

A Commentor Stated:

“Would love to see you do Supreme now! Have you contacted the relevant people about it?”

Tom Sciloi replied:

“Yes. It’s been a long time since I chased a work-for-hire job, but I’m feeling a pull towards the character. Alan Moore’s run was a formative comic for me.”

Image Publisher, Eric Stephenson Praises Larsen in New Blog Post

In his personal blog, Eric Stephenson, Publisher of Image Comics, wrote a great piece about Erik Larsen and his contributions to the comics medium.

Here’s a great quote from the post:

“Erik became Image’s Publisher in 2004, and Savage Dragon suffered for it. I think he only put out two issues one year, because he was so driven in his aim to make Image the best it could be. I shared an office with him for much of that time – I’d become Image’s Executive Director by then – and working alongside him was an incredible experience. Ideas poured out of him on a daily basis, and his love of comics – and creating comics – was truly a wonder to behold. If he wanted to do something, he acted on it. He spoke his mind and pissed a lot of people off, sometimes even his friends – sometimes even me. It was awesome.”
