download podcast finalThe Savage Fincast is pleased to announce that episode 23 will feature an in-depth interview with creator/illustrator Scott James! Scott’s artistic talents on four(!) different Savage Dragon backup stories have allowed him the rare chance to play around with Larsen’s coolest characters! When not messing around in Erik Larsen’s toy chest, Scott’s busy creating his own worlds, including the supernatural-thriller, “The Case Files of Harlan Falk”, as well as “The Mob Files” (along with Vanguard backup artist, Frank Fosco). scott-Jamesfor-web

Scott indulges the Fincast Gang by answering their every question regarding drawing and coloring comics, working with Larsen, playing around with the Savage Dragon characters, and developing creator-owned projects among other things. Savage Fincast Podcast – Episode 21: “Severe Tooth Pain”

download podcast finalPodcast description from the website: Prison rules apply on this episode of the Savage FINcast as Craig, Jim, and Raven sit down to review Savage Dragon 189!  Dragon enters a new phase of his life as he finds himself in the slammer along with all the Vicious Circle goons he once put away.  As you can probably guess, the inmates are not about to make him feel welcome! Intense action follows which begs the question– who is locked up with who?  Meanwhile, Ronald Winston Urass plans to make Dragon’s time in prison a groundhog day of never ending punishment!  I don’t think we’d be lying if we said this was most brutal issue of Savage Dragon yet!

In addition to our review of the Savage Dragon 189, we also run through the latest Erik Larsen-related news, and continue our  “Erik Larsen Trivia” segment, where we read your responses to last month’s trivia question and try to stump you with new one!  As always, we would love to hear from you!  Drop us a line at SAVAGEFINCAST (at) GMAIL (dot) COM to answer our trivia question, comment about the show, or suggest future discussion ideas. The Savage Fincast Podcast to Feature an Interview with Josh Eichorn!

The Savage Fincast Podcast is pleased to announce that our ninth episode will feature none other than the legendary, Josh Eichorn! Josh was Erik Larsen’s assistant during the early years of Savage Dragon.  Josh was initially hired to help sort entries in a “create-a-character” contest that ran in the pages of Savage Dragon and would end up sticking around for a few years, typing up fan snail mail for the letters column, filling in blacks, and running out for bagels.

One fateful day, Josh asked Erik for a credit in the book. Erik obliged, but  it wasn’t the credit Josh had in mind! Ever since issue six of Savage Dragon, Erik has credited Josh by coming up with a new insult for him month in and month out. Although Josh stopped working for Erik over 18 years ago, he continues to be insulted in each new issue to this day. The “Josh Eichorn credit” has become a fan-favorite gag and a unique and original feature in Savage Dragon.

Josh shared some hilarious and insightful stories with the Fincast Gang about the early years of Savage Dragon including tales about almost destroying original art, the truth behind the Spawn Mobile, dealing with artists on the off-shoot Highbrow comics, and more! Believe us, you don’t want to miss this episode! Keep your eyes peeled because the new episode will go live this week!

Hamscher’s portfolio encompasses over a decade of work illustrating comic books for Marvel, Image, Devil’s Due, Chaos and Avatar Press. Cory’s career highlights include inking G.I. Joe (including the first G.I. Joe vs Transformers miniseries), illustrating a bunch of the Marvel Adventure titles, and inking titles featuring the X-men, Hulk, and the Avengers. Savage Dragon fans know him from his Thor back up story in Savage Dragon #150.

Next Week’s Savage Fincast Podcast to Feature Writer Joe Keatinge!

The Savage Fincast Podcast is pleased to announce that our next episode will feature rising-star comic book writer, Joe Keatinge!

Keatinge’s first professional break in comics-related work was doing color flats on Savage Dragon, one of his all-time favorite comic books.  Joe was eventually hired by Erik Larsen as administrative support for Image Comics starting as an Inventory Controller and working his way up to Public Relations and Marketing Director. During Keatinge’s career at Image he contributed to anthology titles such as the Next Issue Project: Fantastic Comics #24 with Mike Allred (Madman, X-Statics, iZombie) and created the Eisner and Harvey award-winning anthology, PopGun, with co-editor Mark Andrew Smith (Amazing Joy Buzzards, Gladstone’s School for World Conquerors). Keatinge also went on to work with Frank Cho (Liberty Meadows, Shanna the She-Devil Avengers, Hulk), as editor of his “50 Girls 50” series. In 2010 Keatinge left his marketing position to focus on becoming a full-time comic book creator.

Two years later, Joe is back at Image Comics– but this time as a professional comic book writer. Joe was awarded writing duties for Rob Liefield’s “Glory” comic as part of the new Extreme Comics relaunch. Joe’s first issue of Glory sold out at the distribution level, before it even arrived on store shelves. Keatinge’s second Image comic series, “Hell Yeah!”, is his own creation and will be released this week. Based on the media buzz the book has been generating, it is almost guaranteed to sell out as well. Joe is also in the process of working with Frank Cho on another creator-owned book at Image titled “Brutal”.

This will be another episode of the Savage Fincast you dare not to be miss! Join us as the Fincast Gang gets the scoop from Joe on what it’s like to work with Erik and the rest of the crew at Image Comics, what his favorite Savage Dragon comics are, and what is in store with his “Glory” and “Hell Yeah!” comics. As always, we will be going through the nitty-gritty details of the most trivial things from our favorite funny-mag as only the most obsessed Savage Dragon fan could!

You can forward any questions/comments for Joe or the Fincast Gang to dragonfanblog(at)gmail(dot)com. The episode is scheduled to live late next week. The Savage Fincast Podcast is located at http://fincast.guttertrash.net/
